JAIME PUERTAS CASTILLO: MÁRGENES FUTURA AWARD

Raised between Andalusia and Catalonia, Puertas Castillo has developed a body of work that blends rural tradition, fantasy, and science fiction into stories of strong symbolic power. His work has carved out its own cinematic territory: an emotional geography that emerges from the rural landscape and transforms it into myth, memory, and future possibility. His cinema does not treat the countryside as a backdrop, but as a living body that thinks, remembers, and mutates; and it restores vitality and imagination to a world we believed extinct.

His first short film was El canto de los estorninos (2016), and after his mid-length film Los páramos (2019), he released his first feature in 2024, Historia de pastores, which premiered at the Rotterdam Festival. His most recent project, Retorno al valle, has been selected for the Ikusmira Berriak Residencies at the San Sebastián Festival.

With this award, Márgenes recognizes one of the most original and promising voices in contemporary Spanish audiovisual creation.

To celebrate it, the festival has organized two activities: the performative installation "The Room of the Three Desks" and the screening of Historia de pastores, his debut feature, preceded by the short film Anunciación a los pastores.
