RAW: Arché→Work Residencies (
RAW) is a
creative development and
film training program for
Ibero-American filmmakers and critics, held across
Portugal and
Spain.
Conceived as a working space centered on the creative process, RAW seeks to foster meaningful dialogue between filmmaking, film criticism and research.
The program runs
from October to November and includes participation in
Arché (the creative development lab of the Doclisboa festival) and
MÁRGENES/WORK (the development and production lab of the Márgenes. Madrid International Film Festival). It also features an
artistic residency in Lisbon and participation in the
Doc’s Kingdom International Seminar in Odemira, Portugal.
RAW provides an environement where
training,
creation,
production, and
critical thinking converge, offering a
comprehensive experience through
two complementary strands: the
Creation Residency, for film projects, and the
Criticism Residency, focused on theoretical reflection and critical audiovisual analysis.

Activities will take place according to the following calendar:
October 20 - 26: Arché (Lisbon)
October 17 – November 13: Artistic Residency (Lisbon)
November 14 - 20: Doc’s Kingdom International Seminar (Odemira)
November 21 - 25: MÁRGENES/WORK (Madrid)
PROGRAM AND ACTIVITIES
Activities begin at
Doclisboa, where the Creation participants take part in the
Arché lab, which offers
mentoring sessions and
workshops for project development. Meanwhile, the Criticism residents work both individually and in groups with their tutor, based on the
viewing of films programmed at the festival and take part in
individual and collective meetings.
The program tcontinues with an artistic
residency in Lisbon, where p
rojects are further developed with personalized guidance.
Afterwards, participants attend the
Doc’s Kingdom international seminar in Odemira, which features an
intensive program of sessions and discussions with invited filmmakers.
The final stage takes place at the
MÁRGENES/WORK lab. The Creation residents attend
workshops, mentoring sessions, and meetings with experts, while the Criticism residents develop their work in dialogue with the
festival’s programming.
SUBMISSION AND REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must read and agree with Rules & Regulations.
The program is open exclusively to candidates from Latin America, Spain, Portugal and Italy.
The working languages are Spanish, Portuguese and/or English.
Submission is free. Applicants must fill in the submission form and upload the required documentation for each call.
CREATION RESIDENCY
1) Project dossier (max. 8 pages) in PDF format, including the following information in Portuguese, Spanish or English:
Film title
Synopsis
Director's note of intent (director's vision and motivations)
Director's notes with references to the formal and visual treatment
Director's bio-filmography
Producer's and screenwriter's bio-filmography (if applicable)
Production company's bio-filmography (if applicable)
Links to work in progress or excerpts with English subtitles (if applicable)
Links to previous films (if applicable)
Planned work schedule
Notes on the current state of development and the current needs of the project
Provisional budget and financial plan
2) Stills or visual references of the project;
3) Motivation letter (why participate in the RAW program);
4) Copy of identity card or passport.
CRITICISM RESIDENCY
Designed for young film critics from Ibero-American countries with a project related to non-fiction cinema, with a focus on Portuguese, Spanish and Latin American audiovisual production. This program aims to promote the production of thought and knowledge, in order to foster dialogue between research and contemporary cinematographic practices.
Required documentation:
1) Academic and professional curriculum vitae;
2) Description of the project to be developed, whose study material is linked to non-fictional film spaces and/or creators;
3) Previous film research/criticism work and/or articles (if applicable);
4) Planned work schedule;
5) Motivation letter (specifying the relevance of the festivals in which RAW is part of the research project);
6) Copy of identity card or passport.
