Plot
In 2009, a man and two accomplices try to evict members of the Indigenous community of Chuschagasta in northern Argentina. Claiming ownership of the land and armed with guns, they kill the community’s leader, Javier Chocobar. The murder is caught on video. It takes nine years of protests before court proceedings are finally opened in 2018. During all this time, the killers remain free. The film combines the voices and photographs of the community with courtroom footage to explore the long history of colonialism and land dispossession that led to this crime

Lucrecia Martel
Having directed a number of short films, Aregntinian filmmaker Lucrecia Martel made her feature debut with La ciénaga (2001), a competitor at the Berlin Festival, where it landed the Alfred Bauer Prize. The film also won the NHK Award at Sundance and the Silver Condor for Best First Film, amongst other awards. Her next two films, La niña santa (The Holy Girl, 2004) and La mujer rubia (2008) competed at the Festival de Cannes. In 2017, her fourth full-length film Zama premiered out of competition at Venice. The film won the Silver Condor for Best Film and Best Director and was nominated for the Goya for Best Ibero-American Film. Her work has been showcased in retrospectives at major institutions including Harvard, MoMA, Lincoln Center, Cambridge, and the Tate Museum, London.
